SEAHO Diversity Statement Proposal

Submitted to: SEAHO Leadership Team

Submitted by: SEAHO Human Relations Committee

Proposal

We are proposing that SEAHO adopt the following diversity statement to be used in SEAHO publications such as the SEAHO Report, conference registration materials, and conference program books:

Members of SEAHO celebrate the differences among our members and recognize the value that these differences give to our organization. Members are encouraged to support teaching and learning that foster an awareness of cultural and global perspectives through the mindful development of policies, education of staff and students, and support of an environment that allows all people the opportunity to reach their potential without jeopardizing their individuality.

Purpose

The purpose of this statement is to demonstrate that SEAHO wishes to build and maintain a climate that encourages people to be active participants in our organization and at our individual campuses by showing support to all of our members and by reflecting the value that SEAHO places on people.

Benefits to SEAHO

  • Reflects our values as an organization and our commitment to maintaining an open, supportive, and responsive environment
  • Shows support to all members
  • Reflects our desire to be educated and to be educators
  • Encourages members to examine their personal beliefs
  • Encourages members to examine the practices of their institutions and to facilitate changes for improvement toward inclusion of all people
  • Helps us as an organization to remember to work toward and purposefully include elements of diversity in our ongoing operations

Associated Costs

This proposal has no associated costs.
